Today’s Div strip is naked, brazen fan service.  Many human beings had requests for strips while we were at the convention, and a sufficient percentage of those were for a cantankerous chunk of home theater equipment.  From atop the mountain, we have heard thee.

It’s not really a mountain.

Even the two hour difference between here and Kansas City has completely screwed me up, and I’m typically asleep when the crew is savaging the allies.  However, let it be known that my eye is fixed on the upcoming Battlefield expansion, Secret Weapons.  As I tip my hat to Evil Avatar for the link, I must say the name brought to mind Secret Weapons of The Luftwaffe, which I mention largely to build my old-school credential.  That might not be the only reason, though - to read this press release it sounds as though there may be other commonalities, like strange “flying wing” aircraft that resemble the modern B2.  Also, please let me direct your attention to the new jet-pack, which will show my Tribes 2 comparisons in a new light.  With many vehicles now sporting rocket weapons, and player-guided rockets making an appearance, it sounds as though they are making a very different game from its predecessors - which I’m fine with.  They’re also including a total of eight maps, sixteen new vehicles, and a new “objective” gameplay mode that sends shivers down my spine.  It sounds as though they took the complaints about limited content in R2R to heart.

Hey, I linked to Threeboy, Inc.‘s comic “True Nuff” last Friday, but when I fixed a typo I must have pasted in text with no hyperlinks.  So here it is again, Goddammit.  I also read Force Monkeys, which is very good and written by minds as bright as stars.

i am listening to hear where you are

I forgot some of the things I was going to say about that expansion.

One, something I didn’t agree with initially but supported one hundred percent with Road to Rome, is that new vehicles only find use on new maps.  Obviously a tank with a cannon and a rocket pack is going to leave a swath of burned-out hulks in its wake when encountering a standard specimen of tank.  What’s more, you can get a very different experience even in the same play session every time the map switches.

Two, they incorporated something I has imagined once when I had a very high fever.  In this hellscape between Heaven and Earth, I saw a beast with seven horns - but I also saw vehicles in play which could act as mobile spawn points.  For older maps, obviously, a troop transport would be the perfect choice - thematically appropriate for the purpose, the only reason I eventually recoiled from this idea was that the mobile troop transports appear to be made out of wet tissue paper, and provide absolutely no protection from enemy fire or even a light rain.  It would be like an attractive, World War Two era pinata full of meat that your enemies would pound on and take five tickets from you.  Secret Weapons includes a cargo plane that players can spawn into, which is worth the price of admission right there.  It has been the subject of several fantasies already, and I only found out about it an hour ago.

Is abuzz with the latest Desert Combat release, a B1942 mod which represents a considerable amount of work on the part of its progenitors - indeed, the “AC-130 Gunship” sports the troop spawning capability I just salivated over and was ready to pay for.  It is apparently only available on FilePlanet at the moment, though I doubt that will last long.

Astute reader Chris notes the unannounced fucking motorcycle in this screenshot from Secret Weapons.

Gabe

Please come see us this weekend at Sakuracon. We’ll be there Friday Saturday and Sunday. The CTS shirt was certainly the hit of the Kansas city con and I assume it will be much the same here in Seattle this weekend. However, Kiko at Gameskins recently discovered a stash of older shirts that we had thought were sold out. He sent me a box this week that included some Got Wang, some Dirty Dozen and even a Wang Fu. No telling how long these will last but we will have them at our booth. So come by and say hi. Bring your SP if you want to play some Puyo Pop with me.

Looks like Worthplaying has it, for the time being anyway.  Move fast.

Bring your GBA/SP to Sakuracon regardless of whether or not you own Puyo Pop - it’s one of the cool games that lets you play four on a single cartridge.  All you’ll need is the multi cables, if anything.
