PAX 2007!

Monday, July 23 2007 - 11:02 AM

Can you believe this is the last week to pre-register for PAX? If you haven’t done so already July 31st is your last chance to get your tickets for the special pre-registrant price.

If you still need some convincing that PAX is the show for you I’ll run down some of the highlights this year.

2007 Keynote Speaker

This year’s keynote will be delivered by none other than geek icon and USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D helmsman Wil Wheaton.

Exhibition Hall.

In our exhibit hall you’ll have a chance to get your hands on yet-to-be-released games and products from exhibitors including Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony, Ubisoft, Electronic Arts/Mythic, Harmonix, Foundation 9, Sierra/Vivendi Universal, Wizards of the Coast, NCSoft, Sabertooth Games, D3 Publishing, Telltale Games, the Behemoth, Namco-Bandai, Upper Deck, Wizkids, Atari, ArenaNet, Hothead Games, America’s Army and Rockstar. The full list of exhibitors this year is actually insane and you can read the entire thing over at the PAX site if you are interested.

Tournaments/ Free Play

Just like previous years you’ll be able to compete in tournaments for PC,console and tabletop games all weekend long. If tournaments aren’t your thing there will be plenty of free play rooms available so you can just hang out and play whatever you like with whoever you want.

Concerts/Panels

Our theatre this here is going to be fucking nuts. It’s easily twice as big as last year and we’re going all out with way better sound and lighting. You’ll be able to catch shows by MC Frontalot, Jonathan Coulton, The Oneups, Freezepop, The Neskimos, Optimus Rhyme, and the Minibosses. We’ll also have tons of panels with industry pros on topics like how to break into the biz and the future of games.

The Omegathon

20 contestants have been chosen at random to compete in the ultimate three day gaming tournament. We will test their skills in everything from Jenga to Quake. Each round we will eliminate players until we’re left with two. They will battle each other at a secret game on stage in front of thousands of people. The winner will get a trip for two to the Tokyo game show and $5,000 in spending money.

A bunch of other awesome shit

- Sponsored parties from Vivendi, Gametrailers, ArenaNet, and Sega

- Public-playable premiers of dozens of games

- Hundreds of freeplay computers provided by Intel

- All of Wizards of the Coast’s "Gencon" RPGA games and content—everything they’re introducing there, they’re also introducing here

- Rock Band, playable on a stage in Harmonix’s 20x30 booth

There’s honestly way too much stuff going on to list it all. It’s a hell of a show and if you come I can almost guarantee you’ll have a good time. I can’t say 100% because you might get bit by a dog or something completely out of my control.
