The Bump

I have these strange lumps in my body that grow every year.  I mostly try to put it out of my mind, but they do stir occasionally, like kittens below the skin.  I sometimes wonder what is inside them

I’ve kind of fallen out of the "scene" where PSP homebrew apps are concerned, having jumped over to the official updates the moment they  added a robust browser, and I haven’t really missed their dark alleys and secret rituals.  Well, most of the time.  I feel a pang from time to time when I think about displaying full res video.  But as the platform has begun to accrue a respectable library, the multimedia functions of the device have receded in importance.  Not to the extent that I don’t feel, at some level, the loss of functionality.  I feel it like a phantom limb.

Sony’s got their new update out now, lucky number "two point seven," and aside from Flash 6 support slash the ability to save podcasts, it closes off the GTA exploit people are using to hack their systems.  I haven’t really heard people clamoring for that last feature, but who knows.  It’s a big Internet.  There’s sure to be somebody, somewhere who is thinking, you know what?  Maybe I am too free.

As you drape yourself in the iron shawl of corporate bondage, there is one thing that might bear you beneath that crushing weight - the ripe and tempting Loco Roco demo, which requires the new firmware to function.   Yes, that’s correct - the demo itself is downloadable directly from the Cyber Web and playable from your memory stick, just as they once were in the unsullied Garden of Eden.  You have probably read articles or been spellbound by high resolution clips of the game already, a game which I am prepared to call charming in every respect.  It is beautiful to look at, simple and fun to play, wonderful to listen to, and easy to recommend.  I have heard it compared to Katamari Damacy, perhaps because there is so very much rolling, though I think the main reason people correlate the two is that both games are so jubilant.  Download it, and you tell me if I didn’t pick the right word.

No podcast today, I’m afraid - we’ll hit you up on Friday with a new one.  Wednesday was and is sort of the target, but I would describe the writer’s block that went on here yesterday as "apocalyptic."

(CW)TB out.
