Capybara and Double Fine deliver games via floppy disc, offer a bonus to PAX attendees

It’s true that most of the PC gaming we do these days comes via Steam, and not from a box, but a product being sold at PAX East does a delightful job of combining those two delivery methods. The Double Fine and Capy Videogame Collection is a collaboration between, surprisingly, Double Fine and Capybara Games that includes a number of titles, as well as a surprise.

For $40, you get:

  • Brutal Legend
  • Sword & Sworcery
  • Psychonauts
  • Critter Crunch
  • Costume Quest
  • Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes
  • Stacking

That’s a good selection of games, but the real fun comes in what’s inside: A floppy disc that not only gives you the Steam code for the package, but will play a game that Capybara and Double Fine created just for this package. It’s a racing title, but that’s all I know, and it could be hard to find a computer that will accept the floppy. My computers don’t even have DVD drives.

Still, the game is meant to be pirated, as Capybara’s Nathan Vella told me that he expects players to upload it at their leisure so that everyone can enjoy it. Only 200 copies of this fun package exist, and they’re being sold at PAX East. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were already sold out; there was a line behind me waiting to pick one up, and I was lucky enough to score #4.

Also, if you just want to buy the games, the collection is also on Steam. No pretty box, but great games.
