Enough with America! Games need to drop the Ameri-centric settings
I have to admit I didn't actually notice this trend until the article pointed it out for me, and now it's so glaringly obvious that I feel a little silly that I didn't see it long ago.
This feels destined to change very soon though. The games industry itself, both its consumers and developers, are increasingly not located in America. Canada has become a development powerhouse, Europe has been growing steadily for decades, and the meteoric rise of Asia has been no secret.
This is going to change drastically within the next ten years, and I couldn't be happier about that. I love games that can take me someplace I've never been, whether it's Azeroth or Algeria. Games will get a lot richer and more interesting once developers stop pandering to American consumers and start creating worlds based on their own homes.
