EVE: Valkyrie is coming in 2014, and may be the first true killer app for the Oculus Rift
EVE-VR was first shown to the public at EVE Fanfest this year, and then it wowed players at E3 as well. It might have been the first demo by a professional team of developers that really showed off what the Oculus Rift can do, but it was also created by a small team of developers at CCP working in their spare time. Would it ever become a full product?
CCP has answered that question today. The game has been renamed EVE: Valkyrie, and is slated for 2014. Here's the official trailer.
This is interesting for a number of reasons. The Youtube information seems to indicate that the game will be multiplayer-only, and is designed from the ground up to work with the Oculus Rift. This could be the first game designed by a major studio specifically for virtual reality, and it was already an amazing experience even at the early stages. You really feel like you're inside a space ship, dogfighting other pilots in a battle across space.
It's great to know that the game is now officially a product, and the 2014 launch could also mean that it's one of the first full games that will be available for high definition, retail version of the Oculus Rift. I can't wait.
