King of Fighters XIII has arrived on PC, the great “new” platform for fighting games
King of Fighters XIII: Steam Edition released on PC late last week, bringing SNK's long-running fighting game series to an unlikely platform that's slowly building a great roster of fighting games.
The arrival of King of Fighters XIII on the PC platform adds to a growing list of high-quality fighters that have come to Steam including Divekick, Skullgirls, Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition, Street Fighter X Tekken, Super Street Fighter IV, and even classics like Virtua Fighter 2.
The PC has been almost completely barren in the fighting game genre, at least historically. The homeland of fighting games is the arcade, but in modern times they've taken up residence on the home console.
It helps that the current console cycle is winding down. Many of these games released on console previously, and are finding a new home and a rejuvenated community on the PC. The potential audience on Steam is much larger than is currently available on many consoles, and the competition in the genre is still much lower.
It's just a shame King of Fighters XIII wasn't ready for its PC release a couple months ago during EVO 2013. Over 100,000 concurrent viewers turned up to watch a very exciting grand finals.
I'll definitely be picking this up. The pros made the game look amazing at EVO.
