Sony announces PS4 launch date, Minecraft on PS4, lots of indies, and price drops for Vita and PS3
Sony held their Gamescom press conference in Germany today, and unveiled their vision for the future of the PlayStation brand. The conference contained information on dozens of games that will be coming to various PlayStation platforms, as well as information on the impending release of PlayStation 4.
The biggest news to come from this event was the announcement that PlayStation 4 will be launching in North America on November 15 and in Europe on November 29. It will retail for $399, £349, and €399.
They also announced some major additions to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. The biggest of which is the worldwide megahit, Minecraft, which will be available on PlayStation 4 at launch, and it also coming to the Vita and PS3.
The bulk of the conference was devoted to shining a light on the smaller games that will be debuting on PlayStation platforms in the future. Sony announced a suite of games making their “console exclusive debut” on PlayStation 4 including Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number, Resogun, Volume, Guns of Icarus Online, Wasteland Kings, Rogue Legacy, and Binding of Isaac Rebirth.
Price drops were also announced for both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. The 12 GB model of the PS3 will now be sold for $199, and the PlayStation Vita will retail for $199 as well.
