Shut Up and Sit Down
The joy of board game conventions: You don’t talk about playing games, you just PLAY THE GAMES
This is a pretty good, if somewhat self-satisfied, look at what it's like to cover a convention with a strong focus on board games. The point that most gatherings about topics are made up of discussions, and board game events focus on playing the damned board games, is interesting.
You can't be aloof when you cover this shit, you have to sit down and dig in. You have to get the board games all over your hands, you gotta smell the sweat, you gotta yell when the dice roll your way, and then yell again when they don't. Playing board games with strangers at these events is one of my favorite things, and this is a fun article about what these shows are like for the press.
