Valve is a hardware company now

Chris Kohler really knows how to put a story to bed when he gets his Steam up, and this look at Valve's play for the living room is riveting stuff. I'll admit that I don't really understand the new controller, and I have a feeling no one will until they use it, but it's great to see a company that has done so much for PC gaming continue to... well, to do so much for PC gaming.

I don't even know why I'm so excited about the idea of a Steam console. My computer handles Steam quite well, thank you, and the move to the Steam OS will likely decrease the amount of games you can play on your computer. There is nothing keeping you from attaching your PC to your television via an HDMI cable. All the pieces are already there.

But you can say the same thing about the iPhone, and look what that device has done to change how we think about our pocket computers. Sometimes it's execution that's important, a company that can do something amazing with concepts that in retrospect seem obvious. I'm not sure if they'll pull it off, but I'm awfully happy that they're going to try.
