I think I've already said it, but it's relevant, so I'll say it again: the times when I would upgrade an operating system simply because another operating system is available are over.
A Windows PC is where I do all my shit now, and I make sure that (hardware-wise) its various beams are set to liquefy any entertainment software that shambles into its killzone. But OS? Fuck no. I use the OS so I can run software. It's a vessel. You don't drink a cup.
The tiles in Windows 8 are marvelously suited to a tablet form factor and touch, but I'm not ready for that to be my desktop yet; I can see it being incredibly effective via a tactile pad. This being said, I understand what they are saying philosophically with it. What they are saying is that The Desktop is a stupid metaphor: a no-place that is, at its worst, like an actual Desktop where random things accumulate on an infinite plain. Documents should go in the Document folder, and they shouldn't not go there. They taught us to want it, of course, but that's a separate matter.
So when Gabriel was telling me about the recent 8.1 update, where they brought the "start button" back, I couldn't stop laughing - we filmed it for a 4th Panel, so you'll see what I mean. I could go into why, but we undertook a comical excursion to explain this very thing.
The Kaosball Kickstarter I mentioned is really coming down to the wire, but there's another hot item out there also. Strip Search fans should know that Abby Howard's Kickstarter for The Last Halloween" is up, and it is warbling like a tea kettle. She's fucking killing it over there, and I'm telling you she's good for it. It's in her, and it got to come out.
(CW)TB out.
