I have too many games and not enough hours in the day right now. What am I playing?
Well I’m pouring the most time into Bravely Default right now. I played the hell out of the demo that dropped a few weeks ago and loved it. I managed to get my hands on a review copy of the final game last weekend and since then I haven’t been able to put it down. There’s a review embargo on the game though so I can’t tell you that it is the best Final Fantasy game I’ve ever played.
oops.
What I can tell you is that you need to play the demo. The great thing about the demo is that it includes special content you won’t find in the full game. So you won’t have to play through the same thing over again which I always hate. Also if you do play the demo you’ll be rewarded for it when you start playing the actual game. Go grab it right now!
I’m also still playing Assassin’s Creed IV and really enjoying it. Generally if I’m playing this I’m also streaming it. I’m essentially playing it with 1200 other people on the couch with me and it’s been really cool. You can hit my Twitch page to follow me and get a notification whenever I turn the stream on.
I made the switch back to an iphone recently after having a Windows phone for about a year. I really liked the OS but I had nothing but trouble with the hardware. I went through three different handsets and all of them ended up failing on me. Eventually I gave up and just bought an iPhone 5c. I have to say that after a year on the Windows phone I had forgotten what the Apple app store looks like. I think I had managed to convince myself that the Windows app store was pretty solid. Jesus Christ was I wrong.
I’ve been downloading games and apps like a crazy person since I got the phone. I’ve played a ton of cool stuff that I missed while on Windows. I love playing CCG’s so the stand outs for me are a couple card games.
First is Order&Chaos Duels from Gameloft. I know Gameloft gets a fair amount of hate but I really like their card battler. It’s a lane based card game with special hero cards. Like most Gameloft games they pull their “inspiration” from a lot of other popular card games but there are some cool new mechanics in there like enchantment cards that let you apply effects to specific lanes. My favorite thing about it though is the robust single player campaign. I love these sorts of games but I’m not a huge fan of playing other humans. O&C Duels offers a sprawling map ful of single player encounters.
The other card game I’m playing is SolForge. I’ve always really liked this game and played quite a bit of it on the PC. Having it on my phone now is a real treat especially since I can sync it to my main account and get access to all my cards.
In terms of iOS games I’m also playing Dead Man's Draw, Castle Doombad, Shadow Blade and Radiohammer.
Last but certainly not least I picked up OlliOlii for the Vita last night. WOW. I have not had this much fun with a skateboarding game since the old Tony Hawk games on the Gamecube. There’s an interesting article over on Plolygon about the decision to move the game from iOS over to the Vita and I am so glad they did. I can’t imagine this game being anywhere near as good without the analog stick and buttons. It’s twelve bucks or a little cheaper if you have PS Plus and well worth the money.
