Monsieur Gribeaux and I have been checking out Farlight 84, a new BR for mobile and PC, and it's incredibly fun even if things didn't go your way.
Inventory management is a huge part of some Battle Royale games, like… too much. At least for me. I like the hunting around for weapons phase a lot but the increasingly detailed, fully realtime manipulations of stocks or scopes or whatever while people are trying to shoot at me isn't something I consider a leisure activity. Analogous to cranking nineties - the process by which a foe in Fortnite morphs very quickly into a Space Elevator - they're skills that I would rather not build, and frankly I don't think I ever could. I've seen Gabriel's youngest, Noah, take a shot from an unknown direction and then instantly become a Home Depot. I'm happy to play something else.
Farlight doesn't have building at all, it automatically picks up and equips items, and the world is full of crazy vehicles like high-jumping robot locusts and jeeps that transform into battle armor. It's a crazy mix of Gonzo Horseshit and a Greatest Hits album for the genre. What I'm saying is that it recognizes the boomer scrub within, and gives it license. And then, after it's been kind, it says here - here are a bunch of guns you might recognize from elsewhere. But they all feel good, and when you miss you know why. This is surprisingly rare. Then it has Apex Legends characters? And about seven different daily lotteries or some shit? I don't really engage with that stuff. It's just fun in an approachable way and it's happy being your Second Game.
It's #Fridabe - and that means it's time for our piquant Fridabe offerings. From 10am PST to Noon, Durty Dwab will Diablo. I'll try to get in there and play if I can, it just got installed. I don't know. I heard it was cool. Anyway, we'll be going hard at Noon on the newest Inkbound content with our allies Horsethief and Yukmouth. See you then.
(CW)TB out.
