Having received word a second time that his account had been pilfered, even though his password was now an alphanumeric goulash, Gabriel decided on a bold new strategy for dealing with this sort of thing. He was contacted later that day to find that it had all been some kind of internal mistake, but Guild Wars 2 has no monthly fee; he can get back in whenever he wants to and not be out any money. In the meantime, he gets a t-o-n of free labor. He can't actually lose.
If I had anything to tell the worlds developers, it's that he is not the sort of person you can inconvenience safely. I'm not saying that is some virtue he possesses. But if you want a place in his hierarchy at some tier after his wife, two sons, a dog, a cat, and a fish, constant security scares probably aren't going to endear you. Some people are this way! I will play totally broken games in an effort to pan out their creator's intentions; this is generally called empathy. It's the sort of thing that makes me a bad advocate.
If you are reading Penny Arcade, and are a Penny Arcade Reader - I make this distinction - do not, do not, do not play Torchlight 2 on "Normal." I've talked about this before, and it bears repeating. We don't know what Normal is; we think Normal is how we are. But they're using Normal to mean, like, normal. Like a regular person who hasn't been playing electronical games for nigh on thirty years. They have descriptions in there, and they would help quite a bit if we were the sort of people who read them. But you will not understand why the game is good if you play it at anything less than Veteran. It won't make any sense; I can't speak for anybody else, but my Berzerker juiced foes out the gate and it's only gotten worse for these villains. You don't want a situation where you feel bad for them. I mean, they made their bed or whatever, but still.
Hopefully I've gotten to you before you spent too much time, but if you've got somebody you like playing and you'd like to reintroduce the concept of "valor" it's thoroughly possible: you just have to start a LAN game, and set the difficulty that way. I'd be surprised if this capability didn't come along in a patch sometime soon to do straight from the top. Until then, a couple extra clicks in a game entirely about clicking probably won't hurt you none.
(CW)TB out.
